Norwegian delegation visited FFRP E-mail

Wednesday  December 14th ,2011, the Rwanda Women Parliamentarians Forum – FFRP-   received Ms Ingrid FISKAA, the Norwegian State Secretary for Development, head of a delegation that visited Rwanda in order to enhance the existing cooperation between Rwanda and Norway.

Centrafrica MPs on study tour in Rwanda on gender-related issues PDF Print E-mail

A delegation composed with two MPs from the Parliament of the Republic of Centrafrica (CA) led by Hon. NINGA-WONGMAPLO Rachel, MP (BATANGAFO) is in Rwanda is on a study tour in Rwanda from this Sunday 4th December to Thursday 10th December 2011.

The study tour is focused on gender equality and women empowerment.

At the Parliament of Rwanda, the two parties shared the information related to FFRP’s contribution on social transformation since 1996.

Hon. Alphonsine Mukarugema, the Chairperson of FFRP, briefed CA delegates on its background and its achievements in terms of unity and women promotion. She equally briefed them on women promotion in decision making organs, for instance in the Chamber of Deputies where the number of women has increased to 56%. After meeting FFRP, this delegation visited various gender machineries including the National Women Council, the Ministry of Gender and family promotion. They visited also some women development initiatives in the Northern Province- Musanze District.

At the end of their mission and on behalf of the delegation, Hon. Rachel, expressed his gratitude towards Rwanda’s achievements in development and said that they were happy to have conducted the study tour in Rwanda where changes in family welfare are tangible. She furthermore said that lessons drawn from Rwanda will help them to resolve different problems in their country, RCA and promised to send another group of MPs gender balanced to come and learn more.

 

 

 
Rwandan Journalists Commit to sensitize public on maternal and child health E-mail

On Friday November 11th, 2011, the White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood (WRA), Rwanda met with over 25 journalists to sensitize them on safe motherhood. The one-day workshop was a way of sensitizing members of the National Alliance to participate and encourage others to join the fight against maternal and child mortality in Rwanda.

In her opening remarks, Chairperson of WRA Rwanda, Hon. Alphosine Mukarugema, also the President of the Forum for Female Rwandan Parliamentarians (FFRP), encouraged journalists to participate in creating awareness and educating the public about maternal health.

“The media is very important when it comes to improving maternal health. Since many Rwandans read newspapers, listen to radio stations and also watch television, the media is a vital channel through which such important information can be passed to the public,” Mukarugema said.

Ugandan MPs on study tour in Rwanda on gender-related issues PDF Print E-mail

A delegation of 15 MPs from the Parliament of Uganda is on a study tour in Rwanda from this Sunday 4th December to Wednesday 9th December 2011. The delegation is led by Hon. Jachan Omach, MP and Finance State Minister. The study tour is focused on gender equality and gender budgeting, their implementation and the role of Parliament of Rwanda in these policies.

At the Parliament of Rwanda, the delegation of Uganda met with the Committee on Budget and National Patrimony and the Rwanda Women Parliamentary Forum (FFRP). Members of the Committee on Budget and National Patrimony led by its Deputy Chairperson, Hon. MUKAMA Abbas, explained to delegates the Government policy on women promotion after the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi, and the proceedings in Parliament while considering and voting the State Budget in general, taking into account the gender principle.

After sharing experiences with members of this Committee, delegates held discussions with members of Rwanda Women Parliamentary Forum (FFRP).

On behalf of the delegation, Hon. Jachan Omach, expressed his gratitude towards Rwanda’s achievements in development and said that they were happy to have conducted the study tour in Rwanda instead of Europe or America, since both countries share a common historical background and that Rwanda has many lessons to offer. He further said that lessons drawn from Rwanda will help them resolve different problems in their country, Uganda.

Delegates from Zimbabwe visited FFRP PDF Print E-mail

On the 25th October, 2011, a delegation from Zimbabwe hosted by the Rwandan Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion (MIGEPROF) visited the Rwanda Women Parliamentary Forum (FFRP). The purpose of the visit was to draw lessons on the establishment of a Women’s Council and other mechanisms to promote Gender Equality and empower women in Zimbabwe.

The delegation was composed by:

-   Dr. Janet S. Masango, Secretary General for Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development : Head of Delegation;

-   Honorable Beatrice B. Nyamupinga, Member of Parliament: Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Women Parliamentary Caucus;

-   Senator Dalamuzi Khumalo, Member of Parliament;

-   Honorable Margret Matinenga, Member of Parliament;

-   Rita Mutinhiri, Director in the Ministry of  Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development;

-   Patricia Nyamayaro, Officer in the Ministry of  Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development;

-   Donna Shereni, Officer in the Ministry of Justice;

-   Rita Nyamupinga, Civil Society.

According to the head of the delegation, the overall objective of the study visit was to enhance the knowledge and understanding of the Zimbabwean Delegation on the effective, practical, measurable and sustainable mechanisms that seek to promote gender equality and women empowerment, with special emphasis on the central role of a National Women’s Council. Bearing in mind that Zimbabwe is in transitional period, the visits aimed at drawing lessons in engendering electoral systems, constitution making and healing processes as well as innovative approaches to women’s economic empowerment.

After the visit, the delegation was satisfied by the results of the visit.

The Zimbabwean delegation visited also other Gender machineries in Rwanda.
